Kubota / Shellplant Supports Murphy Fleet Growth

Murphy is one of the world’s leading international, multi-discipline, engineering and construction businesses, that has become almost synonymous with infrastructure and utility works in particular. Celebrating 75 years since John Murphy established J Murphy and Sons, the company now employs more than 4,700 staff around the world.

Murphy Plant is a team within Murphy, responsible for the supply of plant, transport and equipment, with more than 23,000 assets, from small tools to specialist piling rigs, on offer. A recent addition to that fleet is 19 Kubota KX085-5 compact excavators, supplied by dealer Shellplant, an equipment partner of more than 30 years.

“Kubota machines form an important part of our plant and compact excavator fleet, with a significant number deployed across multiple projects to support excavation and general site works,” said Phillip Collier, Asset Manager at Murphy.

“Model selection is driven by operational requirements, including ease of transport, versatility on constrained sites, operator familiarity and lifting performance. Reliability and consistency across the range are also key factors in our specification.

“The KX085-5 machines are used across a variety of projects for medium-scale excavation, offering a balance between compact footprint and increased digging capability. This model is proving popular due to its versatility and performance, making it well suited to a wide range of site conditions and we are seeing increased demand for machines in this class across our operations.”

The company’s equipment is employed on multiple projects across the UK, supporting infrastructure and utility works. Murphy works closely with established partners, like Shellplant, to ensure strong aftersales support, parts availability and service coverage across its operational footprint. The fleet is continuously reviewed to ensure that it meets operational demands, efficiency targets and sustainability objectives.

“We have developed a long-standing relationship with Shellplant over many years, built on consistent service, product knowledge and strong support,” said Mr Collier.

“This partnership has played an important role in supporting the ongoing development of our fleet. As Murphy marks over 75 years in operation, maintaining strong, trusted supplier relationships remains a key part of our approach.”

“It has been a privilege to be a supplier to Murphy for the last 28 years and to watch their continued growth,” said Julian Payne, Partner at Shellplant.

“We have served Murphy under the leadership of John Murphy, the founder and now his grandson, CEO John Murphy. In their 75th year, it’s an incredible company and story. We look forward to continuing to provide the company with consistent, strong product supply and support.”
